How to: Remove a specific audio decompression file (CODEC).
Solution:
In the 'Control Panel' window, double-click the 'Multimedia' icon. Click the 'Advanced' tab and double-click 'Audio Compression Codecs'. Select the desired audio decompression file, click 'Properties', and click 'Remove'. Click 'OK' three times.
1) Click the 'Start' button to display the 'Start' menu.
2) Select 'Settings' and select 'Control Panel'. (The 'Control Panel' window appears.)
3) Double-click the 'Multimedia' icon. (The 'Multimedia Properties' dialog box appears.)

4) Click the 'Advanced' tab. (The 'Advanced' tabbed page appears.)
5) In the 'Media Devices' list box, double-click 'Audio Compression Codecs'.
6) Select the desired audio CODEC device to be removed.
7) Click 'Properties'. (The '<device> Properties' dialog box appears, where <device> is the name of the selected audio CODEC device.)

8) Click 'Remove'. (The 'Remove' dialog box appears.)

9) Click 'Yes' to remove the audio CODEC device.
10) Click 'OK'. (The 'Device Removed' dialog box appears.)
11) Click 'OK'. (The 'Multimedia Properties' dialog box reappears.)
12) Click 'OK' to close the 'Multimedia Properties' dialog box. (The 'Control Panel' window reappears.)
13) Select the 'File' menu and select 'Close' to close the 'Control Panel' window.
NOTE: The changes will not take effect until the computer is restarted.
14) (Optional) Restart the computer:
a) Click the 'Start' button to display the 'Start' menu.
b) Select 'Shut Down...'. (The 'Shut Down Windows' dialog box appears.)
c) Select the 'Restart the computer' radio button and click 'Yes'. (The computer restarts.)
